18 April 2008
SASCOM PRESENTS
The South African Masquerade ....

courtesy of our official sponsor
Please feel free to invite your personal non-SA friends
to join in the fun.
Tickets have to be presented at the entrance to be entered
into the draw. All attendees'
names and contact numbers will be provided to the official
sponsor.
My sincere apologies for not having
posted the photographs of the Masquerade on the web
as of yet. Unfortunately there seems to have been a
mechanical malfunction with the camera used and most
of the photos are very poor. I will however post the
better ones, as well as others we have taken, as soon
as possible. If anyone has some nice pics of the event
that we can post on the web, please let me know by e-mail:

BOERESPORTS
Saturday,
10 November 2007
Dear fellow South Africans,
What a fun filled day on Saturday, 10 November 2007
at the Doha Rugby Club sponsored by Sasol, who
made a very generous donation towards the event.
Around 350+ fellow countrymen (and women), young and
old joined us to crown the new Boerewors
Champions as well as the Boeresports Champions
of Qatar.
These were the final results:
Boerewors:
1st place - "Die Ou Bobbejane" (Johann
Meyer, Johan Bezuidebhout & Co)
2nd place - The Myburghs
3rd place - Leon van der Heyde
Boeresports:
1st place - AWBW (Shaun Stander, Morne Stander,
Ruan Moller & Jean-Marie Kockott)
2nd place - Powerpuffs (Pieter, Johan, Elna & Marlene)
3rd place - Kielie Kabouters (Ludolph Kleynhans, Marco
vd Merwe, Marianka van Dyk & Sharve)
4th place - Boeremag (Chris Myburgh, Kobus Grobbelaar,
Diaan Myburgh & Estian du Toit)
5th place - Tammeletjie (Henk Pienaar, Chris, Beverly
& Lynette)
6th place - Groen & Goud (Gert Rossouw, Karin Rossouw,
Henre Pretorius, Anneme Pretorius)
7th place - Swingers (Wikus, Dawid, Hannelie & Erika)
Well done to everyone that participated and contributed
to make this a great event. I most certainly want to
commend everyone who had the guts to enter for the 2
competitions. A job well done!
I would also like to thank everyone who did an hour
or so duty at the entrance: Leonora Crous, Charmaine
Grove, Marlene van Vuuren, Chemeney Matthysen, Allen
and Taryn Sampson, Sean & Heleen Kockott & Alison
Stander.
A big word of thanks too to everyone who helped at ANY
of the events or stalls. I don't even want to begin
specifying individuals, because I'm bound to miss out
on someone. Thanks to all of you too.
Thank you also to Doha Rugby Club for allowing us to
use their facilities to host this unforgettable event.
It is much appreciated.
Last, but most definitely not least, I want to say a
special word of thanks to the following people who made
this day possible, making contributions wherever they
can and not hesitating for a second to attend meetings
and jump in to do what was expected (and beyond):
Meyer Stander (Event Coordinator)
Riaan Welgemoed (Boerewors Competition & Wheel Barrow
Event Coordinator)
Alison Stander & Alta Grobberlaar (Kiddies Activities
Coordinators)
Sean & Heleen Kockott (Overall Adult Boeresports
Events and Cleaners Coordinators)
Robert Hohls, Ernie Smith, Chris Fourie & Wessel
van Dyk ( Coordinators for various Adult Boeresports
Events)
Ben & Leonora Crous (Kiddies "Front Man"
and Trophee & Badges Coordinator)
It is great to know you can count on individuals in
the community to make a BIG difference to our "being
together" here in the desert. We look forward to
our future events with enthusiasm and excitement and
hope to see all of you there! Please check our website
for details regularly.
Kindest Regards
Lody Welgemoed & the rest of the amazing SASCOM
team

this an annual event due to the huge success. The
Boerewors Champions for 2006 was Deric Madgwick,

Question:
What type of activities
can one get into - out of working hours? |
| |
Answer:
Buying a boat and/or quad bikes are the most sought
after activities. People enjoy the outdoors, sand and
sea. Clubbing is not big but there is a little of that.
Camping, shopping and that is about it. Of course traveling,
because everything is close by and the airlines often
offer promotions to take advantage of. |
