  OCTOBER 2009
Inland SeaInland Sea Trip - Friday, 30 October 2009

Short notice, we know! But...

With the weather cooling down rapidly now here in Doha, we thought it would be great to do an Inland Sea Trip sooner rather than later. If we forfeit this chance, we will only be able to do it again sometime in March next year and that's a very long wait...

So, please join us on Friday, 30 October 2009 for lovely day at the Inland Sea. The convoy will depart from Sealine Beach Resort in Mesaieed (just after the R/A in front of the entrance on the right hand side of the road) at 9:00am sharp. Please arrive early to attend the briefing as to the do's and don'ts of driving in the desert.

You need to bring:
- Cozzies and towels
- Some shade (cazebo's or umbrellas)
- Camping chairs
- Sunscreen
- Lunch (anything goes, from hammies to samies to braaivleis)
- A lot to drink

4x4 vehicles are required for this trip. If you would like to go along, but do not have a 4x4, please contact us. We will try our best to accommodate you.

We look forward to a great day of fun in the sun for old time's sake before the Doha winter sneaks up on us.

Regards

Braai Event - Friday, 25 September 2009

Welcome back to those fortunate enough to explore and enjoy the world beyond Qatar and hello again to those who kept things going here!

With Ramadan going strong and Eid just around the corner, SASCOM has been off to a slower start than usual.

However... we are planning a BRAAI for those of us that will be here during Eid (on Friday, 25 September).

Brace yourself as you read Alex's irresistible invitation:

Come and celebrate our heritage together and have a day filled with fun, humour (that most around you can actually understand)... imagine scattered braai-fires all over the desert, and in the backdrop: a monstruous singing sandy dune....singing to your favourite nostalgic South African tune...

To help you get into the heritage spirit visit: www.braai4heritage.co.za

The GPS coordinates of the Dunes where you can find us is:
25Deg 05min N
51Deg 23min E

A big word of thanks too to everyone who helped at ANY of the events or stalls. I don't even want to begin specifying individuals, because I'm bound to miss out on someone. Thanks to all of you too.

Thank you also to Doha Rugby Club for allowing us to use their facilities to host this unforgettable event. It is much appreciated.

Last, but most definitely not least, I want to say a special word of thanks to the following people who made this day possible, making contributions wherever they can and not hesitating for a second to attend meetings and jump in to do what was expected (and beyond):

Kindest Regards

Questions & Answers
Question:
What type of activities can one get into - out of working hours?
  Answer:
Buying a boat and/or quad bikes are the most sought after activities. People enjoy the outdoors, sand and sea. Clubbing is not big but there is a little of that. Camping, shopping and that is about it. Of course traveling, because everything is close by and the airlines often offer promotions to take advantage of.
