The Doha Players open their 2009/10 season with a performance of Peter Ustinov’s “Romanoff & Juliet”, a comic resetting of Shakespeare’s tragedy to the Cold War. Set in a small mythical country on the border between East and West, defended by an army of two and a daring General playing one side against the other, it follows the frustrated romance between Igor, the son of the Russian ambassador and Juliet, the daughter of the American ambassador against a background of inept and farcical diplomacy.
